Indiana Democratic Party Stonewall Democrats Caucus
Stonewall Democrats is the diverse, progressive, statewide network working inside the Democratic Party to continue it's historic movement toward equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender hoosiers; organized in accordance with the Rules of the Indiana Democratic Central Committee.
Who we are: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Indiana Stonewall Democrats was founded in June 1996 as Rainbow Democrats in support of the Congressional candidacy of Democratic Center Township of Marion County Trustee Julia Carson. She won and is now in her second term as Indiana's 10th District Congresswoman. In 1998 we made history with the first Indiana Democratic Convention GLBT Caucus information booth. In early 1999 we changed our name from Rainbow Democrats to Stonewall Democrats to avoid confusion with Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition (which we admire) and the Indiana Rainbow Alliance (with which we work when we can). Our goal for the 2000 Democratic State Convention is to fill a Caucus Room with 200 GLBT Delegates.
